VOLVO C30
The Volvo C30
is said to be a spiritual successor to the Volvo P1800, a model
made famous by 1960s TV show The Saint, starring Roger Moore.

|
The production version will be
released next fall at the 2006 Paris show and will go on
sale in Europe in late 2006. The C30 won't reach U.S.
showrooms until summer 2007, Volvo said. Volvo is hoping to
shed its stodgy image. With sexier designs like the C30, the
company is definitely going in the right direction.

The
Volvo C30 promises to be the smallest car in the Volvo
portfolio. The new 3-door sporty design was supposedly heavily
influenced by two of Volvo's most exciting concept cars: the SCC and
the 3CC. Rumour has it that, in keeping with Volvo's almost legendary
reputation for safety, the C30 will feature an unparalleled
level of occupant safety for this class of car. Current release date
for the Volvo C30 is signalled as late 2006. However, the C30
Design Concept might be shown much earlier… |

VOLVO C30

Although the Volvo C30 is
nine inches shorter than a Volvo S40, Volvo claims that the
C30 offers sufficient rear-seat legroom to make the car a true
four-seater and not just a two-plus-two.
The rear hatch permits access to a small cargo hold that grows
exponentially with the rear seats folded flat. The
front-wheel-drive C30 concept's 260-hp output is a pipe dream;
we'd expect the C30's engines to match the S40's 168-to-215-hp
range.
Volvo New York
Not long ago, a Volvo like this would be marketing suicide, but
the success of the Mini Cooper and the Audi A3 suggest that
premium small hatchbacks can find buyers in the American market.
